The blaze, which was tackled by more than 30 firefighters, killed about 60 animals, police have said. Jason Dyer, his son Danny Vere, and Dean Rostock risked their own lives by running into the flames and pulling dogs out as fire raged through the home on Thursday night. "We had staff here last night that were coming out of the kennels in tears with dogs they knew. There were dogs in there that they cared for that they lost." The 15-year-old was arrested and bailed, suspected of arson, after the fire ripped through the shelter, killing more than 60 animals and leaving 150 homeless.
A couple set off to make a donation to survivors of the Manchester Dogs' Home fire yesterday – and ended up taking one of them home. Senior officers have instigated a 'safeguarding plan' for the families of the suspect and other boys who are being questioned about the fire. The youth is one of a handful police suspect may have played a role in the fire.

Yesterday police urged his family to move, but the boy’s defiant mum insisted they would not be forced out. "We had staff here that were coming out of the kennels in tears with dogs they knew. There were dogs in there that they cared for that they lost." Colin Ballance, Manchester Dogs’ Home liason officer, described the “horrendous” scene when he arrived at the burning compound on Thursday night. The boy's identity has since been revealed on social media and he has been the target of threats after an alleged connection was made between Thursday's blaze and the earlier dog attack. And, after more than 30 firefighters began to tackle the fire, hundreds of people rallied round to provide refreshments, animal food and other help for the dogs that were rescued. Police have offered to protect the teenager and his family amid growing concerns that they might be targeted in vigilante attacks following the blaze that claimed the lives of 60 animals. A 15-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of starting the fire at Manchester Dogs’ Home that killed more than 50 dogs has been released on bail. The fire began in the medical wing of the facility, which can house about 200 dogs.

Among the first to share the picture of the boy – who has not been charged or tried – was an animal rights charity. It took the total raised for the kennels to more than £1.3million and animal lovers even caused a gridlock on the M6 as they queued to hand over cash and supplies. Speaking at their home, while the boy at the centre of the claims stood nearby with a group of friends, the 49-year-old woman insisted the allegations were a “pack of lies”. That page alone had raised more than £1.2 million by Saturday morning from 124,000 people and rising.
Many of the dogs rescued from the fire have been moved to other sites, including Cheshire Dogs' Home near Warrington. More than 150 dogs were rescued from the building in Moss Brook Road in Harpurhey on Thursday evening. The boy was arrested less than an hour after police were alerted to the blaze, and has now been released on bail while police inquiries continue. The suspect used a yellow, 5-quart Pennzoil container, according to police, who believe that person may have filled the container at a local gas station before the crime. Greater Manchester Police held the teenage suspect overnight but yesterday released him on bail.
Feelings were running high at last night's service, where the home's manager vowed not to move from the local area. Following the fire, around £2m in donations from the public were given to Manchester Dogs' Home. Many of the animals rescued from the fire were re-homed to others shelters such as the Cheshire Dogs' Home, near Warrington.
